At a high-level meeting on 27 June in Geneva, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu told participants that by 2050 global food production will need to increase by at least 30-40% – while also minimising the negative impact on the environment.
The event was among several sessions dedicated to trade and food security during the Aid for Trade Global Review 2024, which also saw WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala highlight the importance of trade in cotton for African countries, and sign a partnership agreement with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).
