Tropical fruits such as blueberry, kiwi, avocado, passionfruit, pineapple, mango and dragon, which are produced intensively in and around Antalya province according to climatic conditions, make both producers and exporters happy.
The crop variety in Antalya, which contributes significantly to the country’s economy with its agricultural sector, is getting richer day by day. Exotic fruit production areas such as kiwi, avocado, pineapple, dragon fruit, passion fruit and mango are expanding in the region. Tropical fruit, whose production areas have enlarged in recent years due to its high added value, is also increasing its overseas sales.
Blueberry exports approached 2 million dollars…
Ümit Mirza Çavuşoğlu, Chairperson of the Western Mediterranean Exporters’ Association (BAIB), which covers Antalya, Isparta and Burdur provinces, said that tropical fruit exports from the region surged by 172 percent.
Stating that 672 thousand 506 dollars of exports from the region between January 1 and September 30, 2020 reached 1 million 832 thousand 991 dollars in the same period this year, Çavuşoğlu said, “1 million 311 thousand 695 dollars of exports were met by blueberries.”
Noting that 423 thousand 185 dollars of blueberry sales were made in 9 months last year, Çavuşoğlu added, “But this year, an export spike of approximately 210 percent was achieved in this fruit.”
