Murat Yılmaz: Export value of tomatoes per kilogram increases

July 2026…

ŞANLIURFA…

According to information compiled by an Anatolian Agency (AA) reporter from data provided by the Southeastern Anatolia Exporters’ Associations (GAİB), Türkiye exported tomatoes worth 401,193,000 dollars to 51 countries last year.

Tomato exports, which totaled 259,448,000 dollars in the January-June period of last year, reached 252,509,000 dollars in the same period this year.

Türkiye, which exported tomatoes to 46 countries in the first six months of the year, had Romania as its largest market with 65,467,000 dollars. This was followed by Russia with 31,892,000 dollars and Ukraine with 28,260,000 dollars.

Murat Yılmaz, Vice President of the Greenhouse Investors and Producers Association (SERA-BİR), told the AA reporter that tomato exports are an important source of income for the country’s economy.

Yılmaz stated that while approximately 264,000 tonnes of tomatoes were exported during the same period last year, this year 161,679 tonnes were exported, noting that despite the decrease in quantity, the decline in export revenue remained limited.

Export Value Per Kilogram Increased…

Yılmaz pointed out that the export value per kilogram has increased, saying, “Although we exported a smaller quantity of product, our revenue loss remained limited thanks to the increase in the price per kilogram of our product. This shows that Turkish tomatoes are gaining value in international markets and finding buyers at higher prices.”

Stating that strong domestic demand also affected the export volume, Yılmaz said, “Producers are focusing on quality production, sustainable agriculture and the search for new markets.”

Emphasizing that Turkish tomatoes hold an important position in world markets with their quality and taste, Yılmaz noted, “We expect exports to regain momentum by the end of August and the beginning of September. Our expectations are particularly positive in terms of prices in the last quarter.”

Referring that the energy crisis and extreme heat in Europe have affected the production schedule, he added, “This situation may limit supply in the coming period and that we expect a strong export period with higher prices in the last quarter of the year.”
