Muhammet Öztürk: Petfood sector will reach its export targets with URGE Project

The cat and dog food sector, which has grown 30 times in the last 10 years and reached 145 million dollars in exports, met in the URGE Project within the Aegean Grains, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters Association.

Speaking at the ‘Cat and Dog Food Production and Future Manisa Workshop’ organised in cooperation with Manisa Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and Cat and Dog Food Producers Association (PETBİR), Muhammet Öztürk, President of Aegean Grains, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, emphasised that the “Turkish Petfood URGE Project” has been approved by the Ministry of Trade and that 13 companies participating in the project are in the needs analysis phase.

According to Öztürk, the global pet food market is growing, with the export volume reaching approximately 25 billion dollars in 2023 and estimated to approach 26 billion dollars in 2024.

“In Türkiye, the petfood sector is growing even faster than the global average, with an export volume of 145 million dollars in 2024, a significant increase from 4.5 million dollars in 2014. Within this context, 86 million dollars of the export volume was achieved through the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB), which facilitated exports to 91 countries,” he said.

“In line with this growth, the Ministry of Trade supported the Development of International Competitiveness Project (URGE), which aims to provide training, consultancy, trade delegations, fair participation and promotions to exporting companies, with 75 percent state support. The Aegean Exporters’ Associations will continue to support the sustainable growth of the sector in the region and work towards making Türkiye a strong player in global pet food markets,” he added…
