Turkish food exporters, who could not go to Japan, one of the world’s largest food importers, for four years due to the pandemic, attended Japan’s largest food fair Foodex Japan on March 7-10 and returned to Türkiye with new export connections.
Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) Organic Products and Sustainability Coordinator and Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Chairperson Mehmet Ali Işık, who chaired EIB delegation at Foodex Japan 2023 – 48th International Food and Beverage Fair, said that the first cooperation with Japanese buyers was a very long test. He stated that after the start of commercial relations, if the product and service quality is maintained, they are loyal buyers who love long-term cooperation.
Pointing out that the food industry is in a strong position in Türkiye’s exports to Japan, Işık said, “While our general export to Japan was 619 million dollars at the end of 2022, the food industry achieved an export success of 291 million dollars. As the Turkish food industry, we are proud to make 48 dollars out of every 100 dollars Türkiye’s exports to Japan.”
“The share of our food exports in our export of 146 million dollars from the Aegean Region to Japan is, it reaches 106 million dollars. Food products represent 72 percent of exports from the Aegean Region to Japan. Seafood, dried fruit, cereals, pulses and oilseeds, fruit and vegetable products, olives, olive oil, medicinal and aromatic plants are the sectors in which we are strong in the Asia-Pacific market. Türkiye has an annual food export of 25 billion dollars. We have the potential to boost our food exports to Japan to 500 million dollars in the short term and to 1 billion dollars in the long run,” Işık added…
