Great pride for Izmir Chamber of Commerce…
First ‘Chamber of Commerce’ to calculate carbon footprint…
Izmir Chamber of Commerce, which continues to work to set an example for its members regarding the European Green Deal Harmonisation Process, became the first Chamber of Commerce in Türkiye to calculate and verify its corporate carbon footprint.
Stating that they are working with the vision of being a ‘Leading and Exemplary Chamber’, Mahmut Özgener, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, emphasised that they will take actions to reduce the corporate carbon footprint in the coming period.
Pointing out that as Izmir Chamber of Commerce, they have once again experienced the pride of being a pioneering Chamber, Özgener said, “Our Chamber provides a wide range of services to its members so that they can carry their activities further. Our priority is to be the Chamber that creates the most added value and produces services with projects that will benefit our members, our city and our country and while doing all these, to be the Chamber that succeeds in reducing emissions every year.”
“This study, which we carried out in order to set an example for our members and other Chambers regarding Carbon Footprint Calculation and Verification processes, will continue with actions to reduce our corporate carbon footprint in the coming period,” Özgener added.
WHAT IS CARBON FOOTPRINT?
Carbon footprint is a measure of the damage caused by human activities to the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide. Reducing waste, consuming products that can be consumed without packaging without using packaging reduces the carbon footprint. Honeycomb heaters should be kept at the lowest level and buildings should be sufficiently ventilated. Good thermal insulation plays an important role in minimising the amount of natural gas bills and carbon footprint. Using renewable energy for electricity, preferring economical light bulbs, refrigerators and air conditioners are also among the factors affecting the carbon footprint…
