Kars Dam will be put into service tomorrow with the participation of President Tayyip Erdoğan via video conference and in the presence of Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli made a statement on the subject and said that Kars Dam is one of the biggest projects of the region while anticipated with longing.

The cost to be covered in a year…

Emphasizing that the dam is important in terms of energy production, agricultural irrigation and employment, Pakdemirli stated:

“With the water to be stored in the reservoir of Kars Dam, a total of 475 thousand 780 decares of agricultural land belonging to 44 villages, including 260 thousand 30 decares in the Kars Plain, 215 thousand 750 decares in the Digor plain, will reach the water.

The dam, which costs 300 million liras, will cover its cost in almost a year with the completion of irrigation and energy facilities. Thus, irrigation benefits of 296 million TL will be obtained at 2020 prices. Agricultural employment opportunities will be provided to 7 thousand 241 people.

This dam will also generate 10 million kWh of energy annually with the Etek power plant with an installed power of 2.24 MW. An annual total of about 300 million liras will contribute to our economy, including 2.8 million liras of energy. ”

Expressing that the Kars Dam will be one of the important outing and recreation areas of the city due to its proximity to the city center, Pakdemirli noted that it is planned to provide additional income to the people of the region by developing fishery activities in the dam lake.

Minister Pakdemirli also added that thanks to the dam, the flooding risk of 2 million 383 thousand decares of land and settlements located on the edge of Kars Stream along with the sedimentation will be prevented.
