According to information compiled by an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent from the Medium-Term Programme (MTP – OVP) covering the years 2027–2029, efforts will be undertaken to ensure that food prices—which have shown fluctuations recently—align with established targets.
In this context, priorities include strengthening food supply security, enhancing agricultural productivity and value-added and ensuring access to quality food at reasonable prices; foreign trade and support policies will be implemented within a holistic framework to address these priorities.
Food price volatility will be reduced by accelerating structural transformation measures aimed at alleviating cost pressures in agricultural production processes.
Support for the welfare of low-income groups…
The aim is to alleviate the burden of food expenditures on household budgets and support the welfare of low-income groups by strengthening contributions to price stability.
Potential impacts on prices resulting from short- and long-term changes in supply-demand and exports-imports for food and agricultural products, as well as developments in the distribution chain, will be monitored and evaluated using an early-warning approach.
Fiscal and foreign trade policies will continue to be implemented in coordination with relevant institutions to support price stability. To strengthen food supply security, production planning will be implemented by taking into account the supply-demand balance, self-sufficiency levels, water constraints and regional production potentials for strategic agricultural products.
Domestic production capacity for agricultural inputs to be increased…
Domestic capacity regarding data infrastructure, production planning and strategic agricultural inputs will be developed with the aim of strengthening food supply security and agricultural resilience. Agricultural production infrastructure will be bolstered through innovative production models that support productivity, resource efficiency and adaptation to climate change.
The agricultural inventory will be updated based on the results of the General Agricultural Census and standards for data collection and management will be developed for the agricultural data and statistics infrastructure. By strengthening the agricultural R&D and innovation ecosystem, the conservation, breeding and development of domestic genetic resources will be ensured.
Support will be provided for the development of plant varieties and animal genetic materials that are resilient to climate change, high-yielding and internationally competitive.
Domestic production capacity for essential agricultural inputs—such as fertilizers, plant protection products and vaccines—will be increased to ensure supply security.
Contract farming models to be expanded…
Digitalization, artificial intelligence and precision agriculture practices will be expanded to enhance productivity, quality and resource-use efficiency in agricultural production; decision-support and monitoring systems will be developed for production tracking, yield forecasting and the early detection of diseases and pests.
Furthermore, contract farming models will be boosted to meet the raw material needs of the agro-industry in a predictable and sustainable manner. To enhance productivity and competitiveness in agricultural production, the establishment of organized agricultural zones—where production, processing and logistics infrastructure are planned in an integrated manner—will be expanded. Within these zones, resource and energy efficiency will be supported through the effective use of geothermal and renewable energy sources.
Additionally to strengthen adaptation to climate change and reduce pressure on natural resources, emphasis will be placed on adopting regenerative and low-carbon production models that improve soil health, water use efficiency and carbon sequestration…
