Hazelnut prices in the free market in the Black Sea region’s province of Giresun rose to a record high before the feast. Hazelnuts, which were sold at 132 liras last week, closed the week at 145 liras, reaching the highest level in the history of the Republic.

Mustafa Kankaya, one of the artisans of Giresun’s historical hazelnut market, stated that this rise in hazelnut prices is remarkable and said, “Giresun quality plump hazelnuts find buyers at 145 liras over 53 yields in the free market today. This price is the highest figure in the history of the Republic. Despite the nine-day holiday before the feast and the loan payments of the industrialists, prices did not fall. However, in the past, prices would decline in such periods.”
Highlighting that they foresee that hazelnut prices will rise even more after the return of the Eid, Kankaya added, “Now the eyes are turned to the new season. The amount of hazelnuts on the branch will not surge, on the contrary, it will be at risk until harvest time. In addition, the threat of brown skunk pest may also affect prices. Considering all these factors, we can say that hazelnut prices, which have reached today’s record level, will continue to rise.”
