Reminding that in 2022, Türkiye-wide citrus exports reached 904 million dollars, Hayrettin Uçak, the head of Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB), said: “In 2022, the share of citrus in our country-wide fresh fruit and vegetable exports of 2 billion 953 million dollars was 30 percent. While Türkiye exported 1 million 802 thousand tonnes of citrus fruits in 2020, we reached 1 million 963 thousand tonnes in 2021 and 1 million 940 thousand tonnes in 2022.”

Türkiye ranks 8th globally and 2nd in Europe in citrus production…

Uçak also announced that while mandarin ranked first with 463 million dollars with a rise of 2 percent in the country’s citrus exports in 2022, lemon exports reached 272 million dollars, orange exports were 98 million dollars and grapefruit exports were 69 million dollars.

“Our country ranks 8th in the world and 2nd in Europe as for citrus production. In 2022, we exported 429 million dollars to Russia, 84 million dollars to Ukraine, 68 million dollars to Iraq, 46 million dollars to Poland with an increase of 33 percent and 42 million dollars to Romania, which are our main markets where we export nearly 70 percent of our citrus exports. The amount of production in citrus is quite high this season compared to 2022. There is a significant yield increase. Quality expectations are above average,” Uçak noted.

“In the Aegean Region, we achieved an increase of 14 percent in the 2022/23 season. However, 86 percent increase is predicted for the 2023/24 season. The 2023/24 period will be our most fertile period when we will break records in citrus. Our goal is to bring 1 billion dollars in Turkish economy,” Uçak added…
