Haluk Tezcan: We have the power to ramp up our flour exports to 20 million tonnes

Türkiye, the food warehouse of the world, has been the world leader in the export of flour, the most basic foodstuff, for 10 years. Breads, pastas, pizzas, cakes, cakes, cookies, which are consumed for three meals on the world tables, are prepared with flour exported by Turkish flour industrialists.

In 2023, Türkiye exported flour worth 1 billion 465 million dollars to 160 countries and 6 free zones. Türkiye’s flour exports have surged by more than 60 percent in the last 10 years.

Haluk Tezcan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association and Head of the Turkish Flour Industrialists’ Federation (TUSAF), stated that flour production and consumption started in Mesopotamia and Anatolia about 10 thousand years ago.

“The milling sector in Anatolian lands is one of the oldest and ancient sectors and that we continue this experience in modern facilities today and that our world leadership has continued for 10 years with flour exports reaching approximately 1.5 billion dollars annually,” Tezcan said.

Tezcan, who informed that they have a production capacity of 30 million tonnes in 598 factories in 69 provinces across the country, added, “Despite the protectionism barriers of many countries, we continue our leadership in world trade. In 2023, we have the power to ramp up our export figure of over 3.6 million tonnes to 20 million tonnes. Many countries impose various obstacles, including taxes, against the Turkish flour industry. We face obstacles especially because we have a share in the markets of developed countries such as the USA and France.”
