Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that Türkiye ranks second in Europe and fourth in the world in terms of greenhouse agricultural areas and said, “In the last 21 years, greenhouse farming has grown by 123 percent, supplying 9.4 million tonnes of vegetables and fruits to the market.”

In his speech at the Greenhouse Workshop held at a hotel in Kundu Tourism Centre in Türkiye’s worldwide known tourism and agriculture province of Antalya, Yumaklı said that Antalya is the capital of greenhouse farming and that significant developments have been made in the field of greenhouse farming.

Yumaklı highlighted that the producers produce for 365 days without stopping and that they feed not only the country but also the world and noted that Antalya is an important region at this point.

Yumaklı also explained that they have always supported the agricultural sector with agricultural and rural development grants, financing options with affordable interest rates, Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM), R&D studies, structural reforms and product purchase policies.

“Today, we have reached a total of 137 million tonnes of plant production. The development in the last 21 years is 40 percent,” he noted.

“This success is not just the one that has entered our country’s literature. Today, Türkiye ranks first in Europe and among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of agricultural output. This success is no coincidence. One of the methods that enables our country to break records in plant production is, of course, greenhouse cultivation. In the last 21 years, greenhouse production has grown by 123 percent, supplying 9.4 million tonnes of vegetables and fruits to the market,” he added.

“We rank 2nd in Europe and 4th in the world in terms of greenhouse production areas. One of the topics of today will be aimed at increasing both these areas and the amount of production; 92 percent of the greenhouse production areas in our country are on our coastline from Hatay province to Aegean province of Izmir. We have more than 61 thousand producers, they produce in 485 thousand decares of registered area. There is 40 percent unregistered area, we are trying to register it. Because you cannot measure something you cannot analyse or know; 40 percent is not a small amount. We will continue to focus on this,” he concluded…
