Aegean Region backs fruit and vegetable product exports to Belgium and the Netherlands…

While in the January-September period, the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association’s exports increased by 14 percent to 813 million dollars, Uçak said that the Netherlands ranks fourth in the exports of fruit and vegetables both in Turkey and in the Aegean and is their traditional market.

Uçak said, “We exported 103 million dollars of fruit and vegetables to the Netherlands in the January-September period, with a rise of 24 percent. We made 50 million dollars of this export with an increase of 34 percent from our region. Turkey’s overall fresh fruit and vegetable export to the Netherlands is around 44 million dollars with an increase of 10 percent. In the 9-month period, Turkey’s overall product exports to Belgium soared by 23 percent to 22 million dollars, while our fresh fruit and vegetable exports increased by 14 percent to 8 million dollars. A portion of 13 million dollars of fruit and vegetable product exports to Belgium belongs to the Aegean.”

Stating that the Netherlands and Belgium offer an important potential in terms of fresh fruit, vegetable and fruit and vegetable products, Hayrettin Uçak made the following observations about the two markets;

“The Netherlands is one of the most important importers in the world, with an annual import of 10 billion dollars of fresh fruit and vegetables and 7 billion dollars of imports of fruit and vegetable products. In terms of logistics, the Netherlands stands out as an important distribution centre in order to reach many parts of Europe. Likewise, Belgium is one of the important buyer countries of Europe with its annual imports of fresh fruit and vegetables exceeding 3.5 billion dollars and fruit and vegetable products of 4.5 billion dollars. Although it is a smaller market compared to the Netherlands, it is an attractive country for export due to its being a re-export center and its efficiency in European domestic trade.”

“If the surge in our exports continues until the end of the year, we will close our exports above 1 billion 100 million dollars. If we manage to increase it a little more, we will try to reach the export of 1 billion 200 million dollars that we set at the beginning of the year. But anyway, I can already say that a new export record will come for our Association at the end of the year,” Uçak added…
