Celep: “We expect the exchange rate to ensure the continuation of value-added exports”
Birol Celep, Chairperson of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, said that Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EİB) members exported 5.1 billion dollars of agricultural products in 2020 with an increase of 4 percent.
“We are doing a value-added export. The exchange rate should be at a level to ensure the continuity of this export. One of the factors that supported our exports and our success was the competitive exchange rate. We make commercial agreements that cover annual or even long years, based on the assumption that the exchange rate will be at certain levels,” Celep noted.
“The sharp ups and downs in exchange rates affect us negatively. We hope that the exchange rates will stabilize over time. Of course, the increase in exchange rates alone does not play a role in increasing export revenues. Trade wars, protectionist measures, exchange rate manipulations, all developments in the world trigger the fluctuation in the dollar / TL exchange rate,” Celep added.
“As exporters, our expectation is that the exchange rate should not be among the factors that adversely affect exports,” Celep concluded…
