Quotas and restrictions reduce olive oil exports in 2023/24 season…

Indicating that olive oil exports declined in the 2023-24 season due to quotas and restrictions imposed on bulk and barreled olive oil exports, EZZİB Chair Uygun explained, “As of the end of September, our olive oil exports in the 2023/24 season were 65 thousand tonnes. We earned 470 million dollars in foreign currency income from these exports. Our average olive oil export price surged by 51 percent per kilogram. Increasing olive oil prices all over the world were also effective in ramping up the export unit prices of our country. The top three countries with the highest sales in our olive oil exports were the USA, Spain and Italy. For more than a year, export restrictions and fund cuts have led to a 25 percent blood loss in the total exports of our sector.”

Olive oil sector demands duty-free exports to the UK…

Reminding the ongoing Free Trade Agreement negotiations between Türkiye and the UK after the UK’s departure from the European Union, President Uygun emphasised that the UK consumes 80 thousand tonnes of olive oil annually, meets its olive oil needs from EU countries.

“Türkiye will gain a strong market here if the customs duty on olive oil exports to the UK is removed and that our country should focus on this issue in the coming period,” Uygun added.

EZZİB Chair Emre Uygun also described the 100 tonne quota for olive oil exports from Türkiye to the European Union as tragicomic and reiterated his call for this quota to be increased to 30,000 tonnes…
