The Turkish olive oil sector, which has been suffering a decline in exports for two seasons, aims to overcome the bottleneck in exports through an accurately assessed harvest and a quota to be secured from the European Union.

The Turkish olive oil sector gathered at the “Olive and Olive Oil Sector Meeting” organised by the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association. It mapped out a roadmap for the sector’s future. At the sector meeting, the topics of accurately determining the harvest and securing a quota from the EU took centre stage. Export champions in the olive and olive oil sector received their awards

Emre Uygun, Chair of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association, stated that they are striving to establish the olive tree’s journey—beginning in the field—on a scientific foundation to address its position in international markets. He emphasised that all stakeholders, including ministries, chambers, stock exchanges and exporters’ associations, must work shoulder to shoulder for the sector’s development.

“Our priority is establishing a predictable export environment”

Uygun stressed that their top priorities for the coming period would be establishing a predictable export environment, ensuring price stability, and strengthening mechanisms that support packaged exports. He stated, “Our sector is a strategic one that generates net foreign exchange for our country due to its structure that is not dependent on imported inputs. Ensuring that this strength is sustainably reflected in exports is of vital importance for both producers and exporters.”
