DURSUN YILDIZ: STOP WASHING CARS AND CARPETS, DROUGHT PICTURE IS ALARMING

Dursun Yıldız, president of the Water Policies Association (SPD), said that rainfall had dropped by 20 percent in 2019 and if it continues this year, a serious threat will be faced. Underlining that the storage water in irrigation dams should be used very carefully, Yıldız said, “The drought picture is alarming. We are entering the year with one-third full tanks. It is very difficult for the Melen Dam project to finish before 5 years. If the drought continues, the water levels will hit the bottom next summer.”

“Roughness such as car and carpet washing should be ended by publishing circulars if necessary, such as the Covid-19 measures,” Yıldız noted.

THE BIGGEST RAINFALL DECREASE IN CENTRAL ANATOLIA

Stating that in 2020, the total precipitation in October and November was 56.4 millimetres, the average precipitation average was 118.8 millimetres and the average rainfall compared to the same period last year was 58.3 millimetres, Yıldız added, “Total precipitation in October and November decreased by 53 percent compared to normal and 3 percent compared to last year’s precipitation. Total precipitation in October and November decreased compared to normal in all regions.”

THE GREATEST REDUCTION IN CENTRAL ANATOLIA…

“Compared to normal, the highest decrease in precipitation occurred in the Central Anatolia region with 62 percent. This was followed by the Mediterranean with 57 percent, the Aegean with 56 percent, Eastern Anatolia with 55 percent, Black Sea with 48 percent, Southeastern Anatolia with 41 percent and the Marmara Region with 40 percent,” Yıldız concluded…
