The Science and Technology Board of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EİB) held its second meeting online.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, EİB Vice Coordinator Birol Celep said that they aim to carry out studies by acting jointly with all agricultural sectors in order to solve problems such as the yield, quality and food safety of agricultural products.
Underlining that they established the EIB Science and Technology Board to solve the problems in the agricultural sector in cooperation with Industry-University, Celep said, “We aim to further strengthen the industry-university cooperation and carry out result-oriented projects and increase the export of value-added products with R&D and innovation opportunities. We would like to apply for EU project calls within the scope of the EU’s Green Deal / Green Agreement. With the pandemic, the importance of food has increased.”
“We want to carry our agricultural products export, which is around 5 billion dollars annually, to 10 billion dollars, with the projects to be established in İzmir and Aegean Region by Agriculture Specialized Organized Industrial Zones and Science and Technology Board,” Celep noted.
EIB Science and Technology Board Chairman Mehmet Ali Işık stated that it is very important to educate students studying at universities according to the needs of industrial institutions and to give thesis to graduate and doctoral students according to the needs of the industry.
Pointing out that climate change, water consumption, traceability, cyclical and sustainable production and organic agriculture are among the most common issues on the agenda of the agricultural sector, Işık said, “As Aegean Exporters’ Associations, we will work to present a project to the EU’s Green Deal Green Consensus Program in this framework.”
Serkut Kızanlıklı, Project Consultant of Aegean Exporters’ Associations, made a presentation to the members of EİB Science and Technology Board about the project calls of the EU within the scope of the Green Deal.
Kızanlıklı stated that within the scope of the EU’s Horizon 2020 Europe Programme, a resource of 100 billion Euros was allocated in the Green Deal / Green Agreement programme and that R&D along with Innovation projects that include innovative policies and touch employment will be supported.
