Press release…

In the panel on Sustainable Consumption of Food, which was held under the coordination of Dokuz Eylül University (DEU) and organized within the scope of the European Union Erasmus+ Adult Education Strategic Partnership Project, attention was drawn to the frightening dimension of food waste. In the panel, it was stated that the cost of daily bread wastage in Turkey reached 15 million liras.

BIG LOSS IN BREAD…

Speaking at the program, İzmir Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Deputy Director Oktay Darcan noted that the “Save Food, Protect Your Table” project, which the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has been continuing for a while, overlaps with the project carried out by DEU.

Explaining the details of the “Don’t Waste Your Bread” project, Darcan said, “Bread wastage in Turkey has reached roughly 15 million liras per day. We are the children of a nation that shows respect by picking up the fallen bread, kissing and putting it on our foreheads. But in contrast to this respect, we also have a consumer habit that wastes bread. Therefore, we need to raise awareness of waste to our people every day without getting tired of our actions and rhetoric.”

In the panel where Dokuz Eylül University discussed sustainability in food and prevention of waste in many ways; Arçelik, Pınar Et and Bortar Group officials shared their work on supply production systems with the participants.
