Mayor of Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Selahattin Gürkan examined the works carried out in the World Apricot Trade Centre.
Gürkan stated that with the activation of the World Apricot Trade Centre, important steps will be taken to turn apricot into an industrial product and emphasised that the income obtained from apricot will be increased.
Providing information about the World Apricot Trade Centre, Mayor Gürkan said, “Nearly 80 percent of the world dried apricot trade is produced in our province and exported to approximately 132 countries. We will soon put into operation the World Apricot Trade Centre, which is worthy of our Malatya, with its green area, trade area, office areas, bank branches, conference halls, auction areas and licensed warehouses built at world standards on an area of approximately 400 decares.”
“We are working to increase the segment of apricot”
Emphasizing that important steps have been taken to ramp up the added value in apricot, Mayor Gürkan explained, “We continue our work at the lower level at the point of enhancing the segment of apricot in our World Apricot Trade Centre and at the point of diversifying the product, packaging, food related to apricot and turning apricot into an industrial product.”
