Turgay Türkyılmaz, General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, said, “Citizen is full of bonito!”
Pointing out that bonito fishing is going well this season, Türkyılmaz noted, “We estimate that anchovy fishing will increase after 15 October. The number of anchovy fishing vessels is currently very low due to bonito fishing. I would like to ask our fishermen to comply with the rules. Fishermen who do not comply with the rules may be suspended from fishing for one month. If it continues, the penalty can be doubled. There are very serious sanctions.”
Türkyılmaz stated that more than 15 thousand tonnes of bonito have been caught since 1 September and said that the amount in question was around 3 thousand tonnes in the same period last year.
Highlighting that the consumers are full of bonito this season, Türkyılmaz added, “Bonito is a migratory fish. We had a lot of fishing during the time we hunted in our own territorial waters. Now it is in migration towards other regions of the Black Sea, we expect it to complete its return in our waters.”
