‘CLIMATE CHANGE AND BEEKEPING PROJECT’ FROM MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE…

The General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) has launched a project to determine how climate change, which affects the country in many ways, will shape the future of beekeeping.

TAGEM within the Ministry, upon the request of the General Directorate of Livestock, also under the Ministry, initiated a project with the aim of investigating the socio-economic and cultural effects of global climate change on beekeeping and developing policy recommendations for the adaptation of bee enterprises to climate change.

The socio-economic and cultural effects of climate change on beekeeping will be determined with the “Project for Investigating the Effects of Climate Change on Beekeeping Enterprises in Türkiye”. Policy recommendations for adaptation to climate change will be developed in the light of the data to be obtained at the end of the study, which will also examine the adaptation and adaptation of bee enterprises to climate change.

Within the scope of the project, 525 enterprises will be analysed…

The main material of the project will be primary data collected from beekeeping enterprises in 7 geographical regions in Türkiye. 21 provinces (Izmir, Muğla, Aydın, Ordu, Trabzon, Giresun, Adana, Mersin, Antalya, Bitlis, Van, Bingöl, Siirt, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, Sivas, Konya, Ankara, Balıkesir, Sakarya and Bursa), which are selected to represent the 7 regions and have the highest number of active hives, were selected as the research area. Data will be collected from the field by visiting 525 enterprises operating in these provinces.

The project, which will be carried out under the coordination of Menemen International Agricultural Research and Training Centre Directorate (UTAEM), will be carried out by experts working in the field of agricultural economics from 7 research institutes affiliated to TAGEM. In addition, faculty members from Ankara, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman and Van Yüzüncü Yıl Universities will contribute to the project as consultants.

Adaptation strategies for climate change will be determined…

In the project, the socio-demographic characteristics of the enterprises will be revealed and the relationships between the research findings and these characteristics will be analysed…
