Turkish olive oil sector asks for lifting ban on bulk and barrel exports; 50 thousand tonnes quota issued!
The Turkish olive oil sector asked for the lifting of the ban on bulk and barreled exports and the Ministry of Trade issued a quota of 50 thousand tonnes.
Türkiye is looking forward to the 2024/25 olive oil season. The country’s 200 million olive trees in 41 provinces are preparing for a historic olive oil yield of 400 thousand tonnes.
Türkiye is expected to be the second in the world with this harvest as in the 2022/23 season.
The Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters‘ Association (EZZIB), TARİŞ Olive and Olive Oil Cooperatives Union, National Olive and Olive Oil Council (UZZK), chambers and commodity exchanges, 20 institutions which determine the fate of the olive oil sector in the country, issued a joint statement on 24 May 2024 titled ‘The export ban on bulk and barreled olive oil should be lifted immediately’ and demanded the lifting of the ban on the export of bulk and barreled olive oil, which has been in effect for 10 months since 1 August 2023.
Upon the request from the olive oil sector, the Ministry of Trade relaxed the ban decision. It gave Turkish olive oil exporters a quota of 50 thousand tonnes until 1 November 2024.
Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association Chairman M. Emre Uygun, who expressed their happiness that the common demand of the sector was met, emphasised that thanks to the 50 thousand ton quota, 25 percent of Türkiye’s 200 thousand tonnes stock will turn into added value and Turkish olive oil exports will boost by around 300 million dollars…
