Turgay Türkyılmaz, General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, reported that the need for animal protein has grown with the increase in the world population and underlined that the basic approach accepted by scientists is to maintain production by protecting the stocks in hunting and to meet the animal protein needed from aquaculture seafood.

Sharing the information that Türkiye ranks 1st in Europe and 17th in the world in aquaculture, General Director Türkyılmaz said, “Fishery production in Türkiye reached approximately 1 million tonnes in 2023, of which approximately 60 percent was obtained from aquaculture.”
“While exporting 1 billion 700 million dollars in 2023, our imports remained at 272 million dollars in 2023. Türkiye is a net exporter of seafood products. Approximately 80 percent of our exports consist of fish produced in farms,” Türkyılmaz added…
