ANCIENT MARDIN CUISINE TAKES THE STAGE…

Mardin Artuklu University (MAU) and its project partner MARSEV signed an implementation protocol with the Ministry of Industry GAP Regional Development Administration within the scope of the “Ancient Mardin Meals Are On The Stage – Now It’s Time Project”.

MAU Rector Professor Dr. İbrahim Özcoşar, in his statement, said that the university made successful moves towards becoming a ‘Tourism Specialization University’ and that the university will achieve a new breakthrough in the field of tourism education with the application protocol signed.

Dr. Özcoşar said, “An increasing number of destinations highlight their gastronomic values. We want to pioneer the use of gastronomic values of the region as a niche market that will create a tourist attraction. Our traditional dishes, which have been forgotten, belonging to our ancient culture, will be revived with professional approaches and will become a new promotion and destination subject for Mardin.”

Expressing that the project was handled within the scope of the “Agricultural Infrastructure Development Project” and supported by the GAP Regional Development Administration of the Ministry of Industry, MAU Tourism Faculty Project Manager Assoc. Dr. Serhat Harman also stated that with the trainings, festivals and competitions to be organized within the scope of the project, a significant portion of the traditional dishes unique to Mardin, some of which remain only in books, will contribute to the introduction of professional cuisine, the development of gastronomy tourism and the increase of the recognition of the local cuisine.
