Mediterranean province of Antalya, which holds a significant share in Türkiye’s ornamental plant production and exports, will establish an Organised Agricultural Zone (OTB) to ramp up the sector’s productivity.

Numerous cut flowers, primarily carnations, grown in greenhouses in Antalya region are sent to 80 countries, contributing to the country’s economy.
In just 11 months of this year, ornamental plants and products worth 56 million 275 thousand dollars were exported from the province, a 3.4 percent increase compared to last year.
In Antalya, which accounts for approximately 50 percent of Türkiye’s ornamental plant and product exports, work has begun to establish an Organised Agricultural Zone to enhance the sector’s productivity.

Ali Çandır, chair of the Antalya Commodity Exchange, told an Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent that they have undertaken important work concerning agricultural planning that will benefit both producers and consumers.

Çandır stated that, on the one hand, they have raised awareness about the efficient use of water in relation to global climate change, the widespread use of products requiring less water and planned product production, while on the other hand, they have taken steps to strengthen the agricultural sector.
Explaining that they have developed the Organised Agricultural Zone project in this direction, Çandır said, “We have produced our feasibility report to establish an Organised Agricultural Zone for ornamental plants. We are still searching for a location; there are a few places, and we are working on them. We are striving to create an ideal Organised Agricultural Zone covering an area of approximately 1,200 decares, which uses water efficiently, requires minimal labour, generates its own energy, and can manage its waste.”
Pointing out that Antalya region has significant potential in ornamental plants, Çandır stated that this work will contribute to the strengthening of the sector…
