“Red lentil is a valuable product that we are in the top 5 in the world both in terms of cultivation area and production. The quality of red lentils produced in Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır and Mardin is above world standards,” he noted.
“In our country, an average of 4-5 per capita per year”
“As it has a high consumption rate of kilograms, the domestic crop meets the domestic market to a large extent. Red lentils brought from countries such as Canada, Kazakhstan and Russia under the Inward Processing Regime are also exported from Türkiye to abroad,” he added.
Indicating that they need more lentil production to consolidate the position in the pulses market and to be more competitive in the food trade, he concluded, “The support policies implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry increased red lentil cultivation areas by 23.3 percent last year. We expect our farmers to see the potential in this field and to concentrate on this field, taking into account the increasing demand for pulses in the world every year.”
