Işınsu Kestelli, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Izmir Commodity Exchange (İTB), said that Türkiye should turn to Asian and Far Eastern markets in order to raise the awareness of seedless raisins, one of the traditional export products in which the country is the world leader in production and exports and to enhance its competitiveness in these markets.
The 2023-2024 season, in which last year’s products of seedless raisins grown in the Eastern Aegean provinces of Manisa-Izmir-Denizli triangle of Türkiye were offered to the world market, has been completed.
Expressing her views about raisin production and exports, Kestelli stated that Türkiye is an important actor in the world raisin market and stands out especially with its seedless raisin production.
“Türkiye has a worldwide voice in raisins”
Highlighting that the country’s total raisin production is around 300-325 thousand tonnes, Kestelli said, “However, especially in the last two years, our production has decreased to 200 thousand tonnes due to seasonal effects and some related diseases. Almost all of the production is carried out in the Aegean Region, mainly in Manisa, Izmir and Denizli provinces. The most widely produced grape variety in Türkiye and the most well-known grape variety in the world market is the seedless Sultani grape.”
“Sultani grape variety is the most preferred grape in the world market in terms of both high quality and high nutritional value. For this reason, our country has a worldwide voice in this field and has a serious competitive power in the global market. Our export volume generally hovers around 200-225 thousand tonnes per year. This level clearly shows our country’s strong position in the world market,” Kestelli added…
