Turan Göksan: We aim to double our carpet exports to Malaysia.

The Turkish Carpet Sector organised the “Malaysia Carpet URGE Delegation” between 11 and 14 May 2026 to strengthen its position in Malaysia, one of its target markets.

Nine companies took part in the mission, which was organised as part of the “Carpet UR-GE Project” – an initiative led by the Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association to boost carpet exports and supported by the Ministry of Trade.

Turan Göksan, Deputy Coordinator Chair of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations and Chair of the Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association, stated that they had launched the “Carpet UR-GE Project” to strengthen the export capacity of carpet producers clustered in Demirci district of Manisa province. He emphasised that they viewed Malaysia as one of the markets where the Turkish carpet sector’s exports could grow, and that is why they organised the third phase of the URGE Project in Malaysia.

Göksan, noting that Turkey ranked second in the world with $2.8 billion in carpet exports in 2025, said: “We aim to at least double our export volume in Malaysia, which is a target market for our carpet sector. Over 100 bilateral business meetings were held and company visits were conducted to establish new partnerships with 25 Malaysian import firms,” he said.

Göksan shared that they had successfully completed the “Malaysia Carpet URGE Delegation”, which aimed to conduct price research on the Malaysian carpet market and gather information on quality standards and logistics processes, adding that -GE Project, he added that the other target markets had been identified as “the US, Canada, Germany, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Qatar”.
