TURKEY RANKS 4TH IN TOMATO PRODUCTION ACROSS THE WORLD…

According to the reports of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 1.1 billion tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables were produced worldwide in 2018. The share of tomatoes in this production was recorded as 182 million tonnes.

China takes the first place with 61.6 million tonnes in global production. Turkey ranks 4th with 12.2 million tonnes.

The most tomato production was made in Antalya, Bursa and Izmir provinces.

Turkey takes place among world’s most tomato-exporting countries.

According to data compiled from the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EİB), Turkey obtained 313 million 405 thousand dollars of foreign exchange by exporting 522 thousand 752 tonnes of tomatoes to 52 countries in 2020.

In the first quarter of this year, tomato exports increased by 2 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to 128 million 934 thousand dollars.
