Drone use in agriculture grows more than tenfold in Brazil, with performance equivalent to traditional spraying…

The use of drones has been transforming Brazilian agriculture, driven by operational gains and increased efficiency in field applications. Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) show that the number of units in operation in the country increased from approximately 3,000 in 2021 to 35,000 in 2025. This expansion is explained by several factors, including the benefits provided by the technology, which delivers performance equivalent to traditional spraying methods, as well as reductions in input volume and water consumption, improved environmental and operator safety, the ability to operate in hard-to-access areas, and an extended operational window compared to ground equipment.

A technical survey conducted by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), published in the document ″Use of Agricultural Drones in Brazil: From Research to Practice,″ highlights additional benefits of drone use in agriculture, based on multiple studies carried out across the country. Among the key findings are improved droplet penetration into the crop canopy, facilitated by rotor airflow, and increased deposition in the lower third of plants, a region that is difficult to reach with conventional sprayers, with levels up to 1.9 times higher compared to ground-based methods.

The analysis also indicates that drone spraying maintains efficiency even with significantly lower spray volumes, increasing operational autonomy and area coverage capacity, while eliminating losses caused by plant trampling, which are common in mechanized operations and can reach up to 7% in soybean and 4.8% in rice.

The expansion of these technologies follows the growth of global players such as DJI Agriculture, the agricultural division of the Chinese manufacturer that leads the drone segment, recognized for developing advanced precision agriculture solutions that integrate hardware, onboard software, RTK sensors, and an ecosystem focused on operational efficiency in the field. According to company data, approximately 400,000 agricultural drones were in operation worldwide by the end of 2024, representing a 33% increase compared to the previous year and 90% growth compared to 2020, with applications across more than 300 crops in 100 countries.

In Brazil, DJI Agriculture operates through importers and official partners responsible for ensuring the brand’s quality standards, specialized technical support, and access to the latest technologies. Within this context operates DronePro, founded in 2016 following early identification of the technology’s potential in the Asian market, which enabled its introduction in Brazil at an early stage of adoption.

As one of the brand’s first official partners in Brazil, the company has a distribution and technical support center in Marabá (Pará) and focuses its operations on the Northern region, where it has established itself as one of the main distributors of the technology. Its activities go beyond equipment sales, encompassing local market development through operator training, technical support, consulting, and expansion of its reseller network. This model, which integrates technology, training, and support, positions DronePro not only as an equipment supplier but also as a key player in structuring the agricultural drone market in Brazil…
