Press release…
Türkiye’s installed electricity capacity exceeded 121,000 megawatts (MW) at the end of October, with renewable energy sources accounting for 61 per cent of the total installed capacity. The production from renewable sources, operating 24/7 with a high capacity factor and located close to consumption points, is also critical for the sustainability of the transmission and distribution network.

Ali Kındap, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Geothermal Energy Association (JED), stated that Türkiye has written a success story that has attracted the attention of the whole world in investments in renewable energy sources, particularly geothermal energy and pointed out that the sustainability of this success will be possible with investments in the transmission and distribution infrastructure.
A SOURCE READY 365 DAYS A YEAR, 24 HOURS A DAY…

Reminding that renewable energy sources other than geothermal cannot perform a base load function, even with the support of storage systems, Kındap said that the need for power plants that use clean and renewable sources and also provide base load is increasing worldwide for grid security.
Emphasising that all geothermal power plants in Türkiye are located in the Aegean Region and very close to consumption points, Kındap noted, “The solution in this equation lies in finding sources that will produce renewable and clean energy with a high capacity factor as base load. At this point, the most appropriate solution implemented worldwide is geothermal power plants. Our power plants, which are “ready for duty 365 days a year, 24 hours a day”, are the most loved, trusted and predictable power plants in the world’s grids.”

“Geothermal power plants are also the only and most appropriate option for carbon emissions and climate targets on Türkiye’s path to its 2053 Net Zero vision,” Kındap added…
