TESK President Palandöken; 7 million breads daily wasted!
Stating that 7 million breads are wasted every day, Turkey Tradesmen and Artisans’ Confederation (TESK) President Bendevi Palandöken said, “Thus 3 billion liras go to waste in a year too. That’s why we need to get bread so as we can eat and and think of our economy as well.”
In a written statement, Palandöken noted that bread was started to be made at home during the new type of coronavirus epidemic, however the waste was at the same levels.
Emphasizing that bread has a special feature in terms of religious and cultural across Turkey, Palandöken added,
“While sales of products such as flour, yeast, baking powder have been booming, bread sales have decreased by over 20 percent. But the size of the waste has not changed. Whether we make it at home or take it out from a bakery, the bread is still wasted. 7 million loaves of bread are going to landfills per day and it causes the loss of 3 billion liras in a year. If we prevent wastage, 300 schools with 40 classrooms could be built annually.”
