Due to the drought and extreme temperatures in Muğla, pine honey production has decreased by 70 percent. When the Balsıra (honeydew) beetle, which produces secretion in pine honey production, died because of the burning temperatures, there was a decrease in pine honey production.
Beekeepers have hard times in Muğla province where 80 percent of pine honey production realised across Turkey. The extreme heat that has been experienced since May has reduced the pine honey production in Muğla.
6 thousand beekeepers waiting for support!
Ziya Şahin, Chairman of Turkey Beekeepers’ Association (TAB) made an urgent call and said, “I call on our regional deputies since we are experiencing a troubled process of honey production this year. There is a serious decrease in pine honey. We also expect to postpone the loan debts of the beekeepers in Muğla province.”
“Besides loan supports provided to other tradesmen during the pandemic process should be also provided for our beekeepers. There are 6 thousand beekeepers in Muğla province. There is no such potential anywhere in the world as we have in a province. Producers owe this to pine honey production. 6 thousand families are having a hard time in Muğla this year,” Şahin added…
