Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBIB) President Veysel Memiş announced that bulgur, which has a history of 12 thousand years born in Anatolian and Mesopotamian civilisations, has reflected the rich and deep-rooted Turkish cuisine culture for centuries.
“Bulgur is one of the most basic foods of Turkish cuisine. The fact that Türkiye, the first country to produce bulgur with industrial methods, is the world leader in both production and exports today is due to these deep-rooted traditions,” Memiş said.
Stating that they are working to endear Turkish bulgur to the Russian people and to carry this product to the menus of Russian kitchens and restaurants, Memiş noted, “We are carrying out a worldwide study and aim to declare World Bulgur Day. Our goal is to have this declaration accepted by the United Nations during the 2025 harvest period.”

Within the scope of the promotional campaign, during the participation in the Moskow WorldFood Fair, AHBIB President Veysel Memiş held a press conference with seven different Russian media organisations, five of which are mainstream and two sectoral, at Komsomolskaya Pravda Media, Russia’s oldest and well-established media organisation. KP, Interfax, VM, AIF, Sobaka, Agroinvestor and Teleprogramma media organisations attended the meeting.
President Veysel Memiş gave detailed information about the importance of Russia for Turkish exporters, the points of importance of the Russian consumer, the qualities that make Turkish bulgur superior to its competitors, the factors that will affect Türkiye’s exports to Russia in the second half of 2024 and 2025 and the methods used by Turkish producers to produce natural and organic bulgur. Veysel Memiş, who was also the guest of RBK television, Russia’s only business world channel, made statements about the promotion of Turkish bulgur to the Russian people and business people and the projects to be realised to increase bulgur exports to Russia.
In the outdoor leg of the campaign, promotions for Turkish bulgur were carried out in the most important squares of Moscow, while AHBIB President Veysel Memiş, Board Members Şahin Sayılır and Serdar Yıldızgörer made on-site observations at the market events organised…
