‘WE MADE SIGNIFICANT GAINS IN A DIFFICULT YEAR’

Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), announced that they exported 2.05 billion dollars in 2024. Noting that they have made important moves in the past year in terms of protecting existing markets, obtaining new markets and increasing the unit price of exports, Veysel Memiş said, “We have ramped up our export volume in more than 70 countries while being present in 173 countries in the period when global challenges, consumer expectations and changes in consumption preferences accelerated.”

Stating that they attach great importance to efforts to bring effective and sustainable solutions to the priority problems of the sector through common sense by developing a culture of consultation, Veysel Memiş said that while focusing on gaining new markets through prestigious fair participation, procurement delegations and marketing activities, on the other hand, they support sectoral development with foreign trade trainings, sustainability reports and green transformation projects.

‘We bring together the quality and flavour of Turkish products with potential buyers’

In 2024, Veysel Memiş emphasised that an important part of their activities was participation in fairs and noted, “We are making great efforts to bring the quality and taste of Turkish products to potential buyers. In this context, we participated in prestigious fairs all over the world and promoted our members and our sector. We took part in Dubai Gulfood Food Fair, Summer Fancy Food, Foodex Japan, FHA Singapore, Worldfood Istanbul, Worldfood Moscow, SIAL Paris and PLMA Chicago fairs with our stand. We also visited Dubai Gulfood Fair within the scope of our Development of International Competitiveness Project and tried to contribute to the export of the sector.”

Bulgur

Pointing out that the procurement delegation and overseas marketing activities continued last year, he said, “We organised a procurement delegation organisation with an importer group from Ethiopia in March and we also organised a very successful sectoral trade delegation to Salerno, Italy in September.”

‘We aim to declare World Bulgur Day in 2025’

Underlining that they attach great importance to the promotional activities of the products that stand out with their quality and flavour, he concluded, “We launched the Bulgur Promotion Project last September and showcased Turkish bulgur in every aspect in Russia, which we determined as the target market. Our goal in 2025 is to ensure that World Bulgur Day is declared by the United Nations with promotional activities on a global scale.”
