Veysel Memiş: Our exports in July amounted to 156 million dollars

Press release…

Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), announced that they achieved exports worth 156 million dollars in July, representing a 13 percent spike compared to the same period last year.

Noting that pastry products ranked first in the sector’s exports with a value of 36.4 million dollars, Chairman Veysel Memiş said, “During this period, we exported the most to the Iraqi, Syrian, Iranian, Tunisian and German markets.”

Memiş mentioned that some products suffered crop losses due to factors such as drought and climate change. Emphasizing that Türkiye is now considered one of the countries facing water problems, he underlined, “In order to ramp up agricultural production, it is necessary to prefer legume varieties that consume less water and not leave any land uncultivated.”

“If we can make the best use of our country’s land, we can increase our current production capacity by 2-3 times. We have factories with the capacity to process these products. There are also buyers in the global market. By boosting production, we can ensure that our people have access to affordable, healthy food products while also enhancing exports to bring more foreign currency into our country,” he added…
