TURKEY’S CHERRY EXPORTS SOAR BY 21.7 PERCENT WHILE PRODUCTION INCREASES…

Turkey’s cherry exports soared by 21.7 percent last year compared to the previous year, from 183 million 835 thousand dollars to 223 million 709 thousand dollars. While Germany was the most exported with 90 million 641 thousand dollars, this country was followed by Russia with 51 million 776 thousand dollars and Austria with 13 million 638 thousand dollars.

While looking at the production values ​​for the last 5 years, cherry production, which was recorded as 599 thousand 650 tons in 2016, reached 724 thousand 944 tons last year, increasing by 20.9 percent compared to 2016.

Last year, most cherries were produced in İzmir province with 108 thousand 495 tons, followed by Konya with 64 thousand 86 tons, Bursa with 55 thousand 652 tons and Manisa with 50 thousand 934 tons.

Looking at the cherry export figures, in 2016, cherry exports amounted to 182 million 539 thousand dollars, while this figure decreased to 159 million 42 thousand dollars in 2017. Cherry exports in 2018 were recorded as 161 million 674 thousand dollars.

Last year, exports rose by 21.7 percent compared to the previous year and went up from 183 million 835 thousand dollars to 223 million 709 thousand dollars.

Manisa province Salihli District Chamber of Agriculture Chairperson Cem Yalvaç stated that cherry exports are made to 25 countries from the Salihli region and said, “Approximately 70 percent of our cherries produced in this region are exported. The biggest reason for this is that our cherry is registered. The cherries produced here are in demand due to their colour, aroma and size.”
