The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has established two greenhouses for growing tea and citrus seedlings in the Lenkeran region of Azerbaijan.

As part of a project carried out in collaboration between TİKA and the Azerbaijan Ministry of Agriculture’s Scientific Research Institute for Fruit and Tea Cultivation, two modern greenhouses, each measuring 250 square metres, were constructed and put into service on the grounds of the Institute’s Lenkeran Tea Branch.
The opening ceremony was attended by TİKA Deputy Director Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, Head of the Plantation Department of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Agriculture Seymur Sefirli, TİKA Baku Programme Coordinator Hayrettin Özçelik, Institute Director İlham Garagurbanlı, advisors from the Turkish Embassy in Baku, and local experts.
The greenhouses are expected to produce approximately 20,000 citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, mandarins) and 100,000 tea seedlings per year. The seedlings will be made available to local farmers at affordable prices.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, TİKA Deputy Chairman Ümit Naci Yorulmaz stated that the project will contribute to rural development, saying, “This project is not only a development cooperation, but also a demonstration of the shared belief of two ancient friends and brother countries in the land, labour and the future.”
Seymur Sefirli, Director of the Plantation Department at the Azerbaijan Ministry of Agriculture, highlighted that the project will boost agricultural production.
“The seedlings produced in the greenhouses will be made available to farmers under favourable conditions, thereby increasing the region’s production capacity,” Sefirli added…
