With their 35 years of experience, Aegean exporters contribute to the development of environmentally friendly sustainable agriculture in our country.

Producing 1.6 million tonnes of organic products in 268 different products, Türkiye’s organic product exports exceeded 1 billion dollars.

The Aegean Region, Izmir province in particular, has a large share and importance in the production and export of organic products.

The Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) supported the Association of Ecological Agriculture Organisation (ETO), one of the leading organisations of organic agriculture in the world and ensured that innovations in the field of organic agriculture were conveyed to stakeholders.

EIB Organic Products and Sustainability Coordinator Mehmet Ali Işık, also Head of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association and one of the founders of the ETO, said that organic production and exports in Türkiye started 35 years ago in Izmir under the leadership of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations.

Pointing out that as Aegean exporters, which realise 75 percent of the country’s organic product exports, he said, “We invest in many projects in sustainability with the cooperation of both academia and national/international stakeholders. We aim to announce our experiences, knowledge and goals to the whole of Türkiye better with our book on organic agriculture in cooperation with ETO.”

“ETO is one of our main stakeholders that creates added value by embracing all segments from producers to exporters, from universities to consumers, who have adopted the principle of developing and adopting ecological producers, products and organic agriculture for 30 years,” he noted.

“Türkiye is the world leader in organic products such as grapes, figs, apricots, hazelnuts, cherries and cherries. The global organic food market approached 135 billion euros in 2022. Currently, our organic exports are in the 1 billion dollar band with 1.6 million tonnes of production. Our export target is to reach 1.5 billion dollars in the first stage and then 2 billion dollars. Our country, which organically produces 268 different products from dried fruits to olive oil, from cereals to cotton on 311 thousand hectares of land, ranks 4th in Europe with approximately 53 thousand organic product farmers,” he added…
