Press release…
In the export of table olives, the 2020/21 season has left behind with a new record. Turkey has surpassed the 150 million dollar threshold for the first time in its history in table olive exports.
The olive tree, which is defined as the immortal tree whose homeland is Anatolia, offered 430 thousand tonnes of table olives to humanity in the 2020/21 season, despite global warming.
The Turkish olive sector exported 88,430 tonnes of the 430 thousand tonnes of table olive yield and brought in foreign currency of 150 million 142 thousand dollars to the country.
In the 2019/20 season, Turkey had earned 145.7 million dollars from the export of 84,417 tonnes of table olive.
While black olives were 67 thousand 90 tonnes and brought in 114 million 247 thousand dollars, green olive exports showed a performance of 21 thousand 305 tonnes and 35.8 million dollars in foreign currency income.
Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB) Chairperson Davut Er stated that 90 million olive trees gained by Turkey after 2002 are among the fruit-bearing trees and that they expect the olive harvest to increase every year.
Emphasizing that although the yield of table olives and olive oil has not been announced in the 2021-22 season, Davut Er added, “We have clues that it will be higher than previous years and we aim to export 100 thousand tonnes of table olives in the 2021/22 season.”
