Birol Celep, Chairperson of the Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Association, said that the newly planted vineyard areas are increasing every year and Turkey has to offer this large production to the world markets with the right strategy and policies.
Celep said, “It is the biggest desire of our producers and exporters for our country, which is the most important sultana producer and exporter in the world, to preserve its place in the world markets. For this reason, everyone needs to see ahead in order to market this great crop in the most accurate way and to provide a net foreign currency inflow to our country.”
“The fact that the yield and the expected purchasing policy were not announced until this period, when the export season started, causes speculation and the strengthening of other countries in the market. We should stay away from steps that can strengthen our competitors in seedless raisins, for which we have become the world leader with great efforts for many years,” Celep added.
Celep also expressed that they conveyed the expectations of the seedless raisin exporters and the issues needed by the sector to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Trade and the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) in an official letter.
