Southeastern Anatolia’s exports of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products soared by 7.9 percent in the first five months of the year, reaching 1.5 billion dollars. During this period, exports reached nearly 1.9 million tonnes, a 4.5 percent hike in volume, including 431,300 tonnes of pasta, 397,900 tonnes of wheat flour, and 182,000 tonnes of sunflower oil.
Of Türkiye’s 472.9 million dollar sunflower oil exports, 57.1 percent (equivalent to 270.1 million dollars) was exported from the Southeast. The region’s share of the country’s 370.5 million dollar pasta exports was 250 million dollars, or 67.4 percent. Iraq, where exports declined by 8.4 percent to 434.2 million dollars over the five-month period, remained the region’s largest export market. Exports to Syria, which ranked second, surged by 34.2 percent to 149.5 million dollars.

Celal Kadooğlu, Chair of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereals, Pulses Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that the contribution of food industry players to the development of the Southeastern economy has increased significantly in recent years.
“The increase in investments in the food industry and the growing trend toward branding in the region have made our sector one of the cornerstones of the Southeastern Anatolia economy. The grain sector, which increased its share in regional exports from 29.1 to 30.5 percent over the past two years, has become the export leader of our region with this increase,” he said.
“During the same period, with the addition of three more members to the ISO500 list, which includes Türkiye’s largest industrial companies, our total number of companies reached 12. The export of an average of 36,400 tonnes of sunflower oil and 86,200 tonnes of pasta per month from the Southeast between January and May, along with the fact that over 1.8 million tonnes of the country’s total cereal exports of 5.2 million tonnes were carried out from our region, reflects the potential and capacity of our region’s food industry,” he added…
