The fisheries sector, one of the stars of Turkish exports, increased its exports by 20 percent in 2024 from 1 billion 679 million dollars to 2 billion 19 million dollars.

The fisheries sector is proud to surpass 2 billion dollars for the first time.
After 2000, Türkiye invested heavily in the fishery sector, Sinan Kızıltan, Chairman of the Sector Board of the Turkish Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Associations, said that their exports, which were 59 million dollars to around 10 countries in 2000, reached 91 countries at the end of 2024 and their export amounts reached 2 billion 19 million dollars with a hike of approximately 34 times and that they targeted an export of 2.5 billion dollars for 2025.
Stating that the country’s fishery production has reached 1 million 8 thousand tonnes, Kızıltan said, “Türkiye’s fishery production and exports have made great progress especially with the investments made in recent years. The fact that Turkish entrepreneurs have brought the world’s most state of the art and integrated facilities in the aquaculture and animal products sector to our country in the last 25 years; this is one of the factors that boost exports.”

“In Türkiye, 553 thousand tonnes of fishery products were obtained through aquaculture. The share of aquaculture reached 55 percent in total. Norway with 8 million people earns 13 billion dollars in foreign currency from aquaculture exports. Türkiye has the potential to reach these figures,” he added.
