Uğur Toprak, Board Member of the Chamber of Food Engineers, stated that the use of ‘salicylic acid’, which is recommended in the production of tomato paste on social media, is not approved for use in food products and warned citizens that such additives may harm health.
Uğur Toprak, a member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Food Engineers, pointed out that there is information that ‘salicylic acid’ should be added to this and similar products in the recipes shared on social media regarding the production of tomato paste.
Indicating that ‘’salicylic acid’, known as tomato medicine sold in pharmacies, is used for the treatment of certain diseases, especially skin, in both humans and animals, Toprak said, “Its use in food products is not approved. We warn those who produce tomato paste, canned tomatoes or pickles both at home and in the industry not to use any unapproved product.”
Reminding ith the autumn season, tomato paste production started at home and in the food industry. Uğur Toprak added, “There is information that ‘salicylic acid’ should be added to this and similar products in the recipes shared on social media regarding tomato paste production, we have to be aware that unapproved products may cause danger.”
