Aykut Göymen, Chairperson of Turkish Pasta Industrialists’ Association (TMSD), stated that the Turkish pasta sector aims to maintain the success of 1.5 million tonnes of exports and 1 billion dollars of exports in 2025.

AFRICA MARKET IS OF CRITICAL IMPORTANCE FOR TURKISH PASTA…
Göymen also stated that African countries are a big market for the Turkish pasta sector, but countries in this region have increased import taxes to protect local production. ‘’Very serious investments are being made in Africa and these countries have started to impose high taxes on exporting countries like Türkiye in order to support local production. This situation creates difficulties in our market. However, Africa continues to be an indispensable market for Turkish pasta,” Göymen said.
300 DOLLARS TAX PER TONNE IN SYRIAN MARKET CREATES DIFFICULTIES…
Pointing out that they believe that exports to Syria may grow with the new administration, Göymen noted,
“Recently, the Syrian administration has imposed a tax of 300 dollars per tonne in order to regulate imports. This situation makes our exports difficult, but we are trying to overcome this problem through various diplomatic initiatives. Food is one of the biggest needs of Syria and pasta is an important product in this field.”

2025 TARGETS; EXPORT PROTECTION AND OPENING TO NEW MARKETS…
TMSD aims to maintain the current export figures in 2025, as well as to expand with new markets, especially in European countries. Göymen emphasised that both removing the obstacles in the existing markets and opening up to new markets are of great importance for the sustainable growth of the sector.
