Yılmaz also stated that the kiwi harvest continues at full speed in Efirli village of Perşembe district. Noting that the producers sell their crops on the branch, days before the start of the harvest, Yılmaz explained, “This also provides an advantage to the producers. By the way I would liketo remind that Ordu kiwi is also registered as a geographical indication by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office due to its long storage life and its unique flavour. That is why farmers also show interest in kiwi in this respect.”

Emphasizing that the Ordu kiwi is a sought-after crop in the market, Yılmaz said that the citizens especially showed interest in the Ordu kiwi and therefore the product was almost sold out in the market.

Giving the information that new kiwi orchards have been set up in the region with the support of the state, Yılmaz added, “Our producers increase the production areas of kiwi, which provides them with additional income besides hazelnuts and establish new orchards every year.”

Also mentioning the contribution of kiwi to Ordu provincial economy, Yılmaz concluded, “This season, the kiwi harvest in Ordu is about 8,500 tonnes. According to our findings, around 70 million TL contributes to the economy of our province from kiwi production. Considering that kiwi orchards are increasing, this number is expected to expand even more in the coming years.
