Jak Eskinazi: We must raise our average export price to 3 dollars

Press release…

Major support for value-added production and exports in 81 provinces…

Türkiye has launched one of the largest local development initiatives in its history. Under the project titled ‘Comprehensive Development from East to West, North to South,’ implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, 324 innovative investments will be supported in each of the 81 provinces under four headings. The initiative will be carried out nationwide through 26 Development Agencies. Applications for the projects will begin after the Development Agencies issue their calls for proposals.

A remarkable initiative to halt Türkiye’s decline in production…

Jak Eskinazi, Coordinator Chair of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, expressed his excitement about this initiative, emphasising that production is one of Türkiye’s strongest pillars, but due to wrong decisions made in the Turkish economy over the past three years, it has reached the point of losing its production power. He stressed that the ‘Comprehensive Development from East to West, North to South’ initiative could prevent the decline in production.

Eskinazi pointed out that the decision to support 324 investments in each of the 81 provinces, taking into account their own dynamics, was very appropriate, saying, “This will make it possible to reduce development disparities between regions while increasing the competitiveness of our regions. We will increase our exports by producing in sectors supported by the motto ‘Our Business is Production, Our Strength is Export.'”

Emphasizing that Türkiye’s current average export price of 1.55 dollars could be raised to 3 dollars with such moves, he explained, “Türkiye’s export pattern is dominated by medium-low and low-tech products. The high-interest, low-exchange rate policy implemented in recent years to reduce high inflation has significantly reduced the export capacity of labour-intensive sectors. Türkiye has fallen into the position of an expensive country globally. If Türkiye were to reorient its export pattern toward a structure where high-tech and medium-high-tech products are more prominently represented, it would emerge from this economic crisis with fewer wounds.”

“For that reason, we view the ‘Comprehensive Development from East to West, North to South’ initiative as a very correct step,” he added…
