Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), said that the sector converted 208 thousand 714 tonnes of products into value in the AHBİB responsibility area in September.
“Pulses ranked first in the product group we exported the most in September with a value of 63 million dollars. In the said period, we achieved an increase of 15 percent in the pulses product group. Pastry products ranked second with an increase of 389 percent and a value of 28.2 million dollars, and sugar and sugar products ranked third with an increase of 21 percent and a value of 19 million dollars. In September, the most important product in our regional exports was red lentil. Red lentil, which we reached a value of 39.2 million dollars with an increase of 43 percent, accounted for 23 percent of our regional sector exports,” Memiş said.
‘Indonesia, Palestine and Austria took the lead in export growth’
Evaluating AHBİB’s September exports by country, Veysel Memiş announced that the most important markets were the Middle East, Africa, the European Union and the American countries and that the activities they carried out to enhance market diversity were strikingly reflected in the reports for the period in question.
Pointing out that Iraq, Syria and Italy were in the top three in the list of countries they exported the most in September, Memiş added, “We exported 41.8 million dollars to Iraq with an increase of 38 percent and 12 million dollars to Syria with an increase of 77 percent. We reached a value of 9.4 million dollars in the Italian market. These countries were followed by Sudan, Palestine, Egypt, Germany, Austria, Algeria and Saudi Arabia. Our Association, which increased its performance in 42 of the 144 countries we exported to in September, achieved the strongest increases in export volume in Indonesia, Palestine, Austria, Dominican Republic, Panama, Honduras and Guatemala markets.”
