İlhan Ayhan: Ninety five percent of livestock farmers work without a license

İlhan Ayhan, Head of Antalya Red Meat Producers Association, said that 95 percent of the livestock producers’ enterprises in Türkiye are unlicensed.

“Our producers want to build licensed businesses, but due to the Great Plain Protection Area Project, our producers have great difficulty in obtaining a licence,” he said.

İlhan Ayhan, Head of Mediterranean coast province of Antalya’ Red Meat Producers’ Association, explained that animal husbandry in Türkiye along with the licence problem experienced by livestock producers and the features to be considered about animal purchase before the Feast of Sacrifice.

Ayhan claimed that livestock producers will not constitute an obstacle in the protection area in the ‘Great Plain Coastal Protection Area Project’ announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in order to protect and ensure the sustainable use of soil resources.

Calling for the support of local producers, Ayhan also noted that when livestock farmers apply to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for a licence, they are confronted with the ‘Great Plain Project’. Ayhan added, “Great Plain means protecting our agricultural lands. Our agricultural lands need to be protected, but since animal husbandry is also an agricultural product, for some reason the ministry is not authorised or allowed. Great plains exist throughout in the country. Our friends have serious difficulties in obtaining licences for their enterprises. In our country, 95 percent of the enterprises of producers are unlicensed. Our producers want to build licensed businesses, but due to the Great Plain Protection Area Project, which they cannot get permission from the ministry, our producers have great difficulty in obtaining a licence.”
